The Loft in Ames, Iowa is a well known retail consignment shop, popular with teens and adults alike. The space it inhabits and its beginnings are deeply rooted in another popular store, Duck Worth Wearing. Read on to discover what is so special about The Loft and how it came to be!
The Loft opened in 2009 just as April showers were beginning for the season. The idea was born out of our customer’s needs as so many of our Duck Worth Wearing consignors and customers kept commenting, “What are we going to do when our kids outgrow Duck Worth Wearing?” It became obvious there was a need for great prices on clothing for teens and adults.
The trial store was opened upstairs above Duck Worth Wearing, as we knew our current consignors and customers would willingly shop the upper level for more great deals! Because of this store’s new location, it was only natural to call it by its new name, The Loft.
It became apparent that The Loft and Duck Worth Wearing’s popularity was growing, so we looked into getting Duck Worth Wearing its own place across the street where it currently resides. The Loft soon settled into its current location in March of 2012, taking over both the first and second levels of the building on 233 Main St, Ames, IA 50010.
Gently used name brand clothes started selling right away, so we decided to sell wholesale jewelry, scarves, sunglasses, ISU items, leggings and other new items to make our store unique and great for all shoppers. We became a one stop shop for customers finding used and new items all under one roof.
In 2016 we worked to remodel our counters and checkin system to allow for more inventory and a smoother process for accepting consignment.
Come in and visit the store to see our fresh inventory of jeans, formal dresses, men’s & women’s clothes, shoes, as well as accessories! We are also always happy to accept new consignor accounts for gently used name brand clothing. Earning money is great way to get involved in all that The Loft has to offer.
